Postcard from Cornwall
From Funny Things Happen When You Travel
On a trip to Britain we prowled all over looking at megalithic sites. While we were in Cornwall, I sent a postcard to my family in Vancouver.. I addressed it only to "The Wilson Family" and forgot to put on the street number. When we got home I told my son I had sent them a postcard but I had left off the address.
He laughed and handed me an official looking envelope. Inside was the postcard on which I had written:
"We are in Cornwall exploring megalithic tombs. Great time, friendly people, funny plumbing. Was walking in the rain on desolate moor. Slipped and fell crossing over hedgerow. Landed flat on back in muddy ditch, flailing arms like helpless turtle. Shrieked "Earl, Earl come and pull me out of damn mud.!" Shrieked in vain for about 20 "Earl, Earls". Your father didn't hear me because he was busy peeing behind a bush. Sorry, No pictures, Love Mom (Grandma)"
Stapled to the card was a note which read, "Dear Householder: "We made an extra effort to find your address so that you could enjoy this card as much as we did." Signed: Your Post Office.
